Terms of Service
Version 1.1 · Effective 31 October 2026 · Plain language, no lawyers harmed.
Spiridon is a small, independently run satellite. These terms describe what you can expect from us and what we expect from you. If something here is unclear, ask before you rely on it.
1. Who we are
Spiridon.space is an independent community satellite compatible with the Storj network. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of Storj Labs. We run the open-source satellite software published at github.com/storj/storj.
2. The service
We operate satellite metadata, audit, repair and gateway services for storage node operators who choose to trust us. Participation is voluntary in both directions: you may add or remove Spiridon from your node's trusted sources at any time.
The SNO package is provided free of charge. We may use a small amount of space on your nodes (up to about 1 TB) to bootstrap placements and to monitor your nodes.
3. Your account
- One account per operator, with one user and one project under the SNO package.
- You are responsible for your access grants and API keys. We cannot recover them.
- An account is for you alone. Do not share your login with other people, hand it over to someone else, or run one account on behalf of several operators.
- Give us a working email address — it is the only way we can reach you about outages or wind-down.
4. Fair usage & limits
Rate, bandwidth and object limits exist to keep a free service usable for everyone. We publish current limits and change them with notice where we reasonably can. Circumventing limits — multiple accounts, automated abuse, or reselling capacity — ends access.
The SNO package is for your own use. You may not sell, resell, rent, sublicense or otherwise trade your account, your access to Spiridon, or the storage and bandwidth we provide — whether for money or anything else of value — and you may not act as a paid intermediary who stores other people's data on your account. Building your own free or paid service on top of a SNO account counts as reselling. If you want to run something commercial on Spiridon, write to us first.
Rule of thumb: if your usage would make another operator's experience worse, it is not fair usage.
5. Your data
Your objects are encrypted client-side and split across nodes; we hold metadata, not readable content. You keep all rights to what you store. You must not store material that is unlawful where we operate, and we will act on valid legal requests.
What we collect about you — an email address, an optional name, the IP addresses our servers must see, and the running record of your projects and nodes — is covered separately in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
6. Availability
We publish uptime and incident history, and we aim high — but this is a community service with no contractual SLA. Keep an independent backup of anything you cannot afford to lose.
7. Suspension & exit
You can leave at any time via graceful exit. We may suspend an account for abuse, unlawful content, account sharing or reselling, or repeated limit circumvention — with notice unless immediate action is required. If we ever wind the satellite down, we give 30 days notice.
8. Liability
The service is provided as-is, without warranty. To the extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim arising from your use of Spiridon is limited to the amount you paid us — which, on the SNO package, is zero.
9. Changes to these terms
Material changes are announced at least one week before they take effect, on the operator forum and spiridon.space web page. Continuing to use the satellite after that date means you accept the new version.
